Rzezsow, Poland: June 25 - July 2, 2017

 

The European Universities Volleyball Championship 2017 was held in Rzeszow, Poland, involving over 280 athletes, forming 12 male and 9 female teams, representing 20 European universities from 15 countries.

The championship was organised by the Academic Club of the Academic Sport Association of the University of Rzezsow, in collaboration with the Rzezsow University of Technology and with the support of several local sponsors. The organisers have gained great experience in organisation of sports event through the several events organised over the past few years, such as the Festival of Academic Sport, the Academic Sport Championships and the Youth’s Winter Sports Olympics.

EUSA is officially represented by Mr Hovhannes Gabrielyan and by EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Joerg Foerster, assisted by Mr Lars Rydland.

The home team of University of Rzezsow (POL) gained the gold medal in the men’s final, winning a thrilling match against the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse (FRA). In the women’s category, the first place was conquered by the University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau (ROU), who won against the University of Bordeaux (FRA).

A special award for fair play was assigned to the University of Bergen (NOR), in the women’s category, and to the PXL University College (BEL), in the men’s category. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was given to Ramana Ariioemau, representing the University of Bordeaux (FRA), for the women category, and to Luka Basic, representing the University Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier (FRA), in the men’s category.

At the end of the event, the EUSA flag was passed to the representative of the organising committee of the next European Universities Volleyball Championship. Volleyball will also be one of the sports featured in the European Universities Games 2018, taking place in Coimbra, Portugal.
